Discover 23 Chrome Extensions that are Built-in to Wavebox.
As a fully-fledged browser built on Chromium Wavebox users can add any extension from the Chrome Web Store in Wavebox. Extensions offer some wonderful extra tooling to help make life easier such as Lastpass, Grammarly, and uBlock Origin - just search for them on the Chrome Web Store and hit the blue 'Add to Wavebox' button to install them.
But, did you know that Wavebox has a growing number of exclusive extensions that are baked into our browser, rather than provided as an add-on?
The majority of these 'extensions' started life as feature requests from our users who craved productivity boosts like memory optimization, tab management, and unified search across all their web tools. Having our built-in extensions means we can quickly fulfill these requests and offer the following extra benefits:
- Everything is fully maintained, secure, and up-to-date.
- Uses functionality that is not technically possible as a Chrome extension.
- Uses far less memory than running several individual extensions.
- Included in a Wavebox Pro subscription - so no extra fees, accounts, or logins to worry about.
- Guaranteed compatibility with all other Wavebox extensions and features.
- Supported by a first-class and friendly customer service team.
Below, you'll find a list of some extension-like features that come as standard with Wavebox Pro. These features allow you to eliminate the technical burden and expense of running/updating 21 different Chrome extensions.
1. Tab Organizing & Management
Wavebox has so many options when it comes to organizing your web stuff into tidy workflows, and so there's something for everyone. Here are just some of the different ways you can work more efficiently across all your web stuff:
- Vertical webdock (sidebar) for individual apps, and app groups
- Accordion dividers in the webdock to arrange apps/groups
- Horizontal toolbar to display apps in a group
- App menus displaying thumbnail previews, recently visited pages, and saved items
- Horizontal tabstrip for focused browsing
- Custom names & icons for all groups and apps
- Dashboard with widgets to unify and share (optional) all your web resources.
2. Tab Sleeping
By default, every app and tab will sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity. So even if you have 100 tabs open, your browser and computer will continue to run smoothly. You can customize sleep settings for each app, and tabs inherit the sleep settings of the parent app/group.
3. Spaces
Unique to Wavebox are Spaces (formerly called Cookie Containers) which are used to support multi-account sign-in e.g. 2 x Gmail accounts. We also use them to enable app-to-app linking (Link Engine), whereby links automatically open in the correct app in the same Space e.g. click on a Salesforce link in Gmail and it will open in the correct place in the Salesforce app.
4. Dashboards
Dashboards offer a unique way to organize scattered web links under a common theme. Think of them as a 'desktop' for each project or department, where you can add relevant links, notes, and messages using widgets from the library.
Here are some examples of where you can use them:
- Group Quick Links: Create a Workspace for a sidebar group to pull out frequently used apps, websites, and documents. Pin the workspace to the group so it's easily accessible in the sidebar.
- Projects: Create a Workspace for a particular project or department, such as a marketing campaign or sales & marketing team. 'Pin' apps and pages relating to that project in the workspace so that everyone can find it easily, such as a Trello board, or Google Drive folder.
- Save Tab Sessions: Save all tabs in any secondary Wavebox window as a workspace Collection so that you can quickly open them again later.
- Clients: Create a workspace for each client, with links to their apps and websites. plus task lists and handy sticky notes.
- Onboarding: Use Workspaces to onboard new users with all the apps, links, tasks, and tips they need to get up and running quickly with Wavebox.
- Teams: Create a Workspace for your team, with Collections for projects, team task lists, plus the Team Feed widget to keep everyone up-to-date.
5. Webmail Picker
Click on an email address on your computer, and a Wavebox pop-up lets you choose which webmail account to send it from* - this saves time opening the browser, finding the correct webmail account, and signing in. A compose box for your chosen account then opens automatically, ready for you to do your stuff.
(*Wavebox must be set as your OS default browser)
6. Smart Notes
Smart Notes is a simple note-taking tool that links notes to the pages you use on the web, such as a message in Slack, a Google doc, a Trello board, or anything else that has a URL. To create a Smart Note;
- On any page, click the Smart Note icon in the top toolbar (on the right) to create a new note automatically.
- Highlight any text on the page and hit the Smart Note extension icon to create a note using that text.
- The Smart Note icon will display a badge if the page you are visiting already has a note.
Smart Notes is a useful notepad for all types of uses. You can add the Notepad app to the webdock or top toolbar as an App from the App Store. You can also add a Smart Note widget to any Dashboard.
7. Global Search
This feature provides a powerful content search for everything you have in Wavebox. Either click on the search icon in the top-right corner or hit Ctrl+S.
You can keyword search across all your web apps, websites, pins, bookmarks, Smart Notes, Dashboard widgets, and everything else in Wavebox.
8. Multiple Gmail and Drive Search
Being able to stay signed-in to multiple Gmail accounts also means we can search them too. You can use the search field in the Quick Switch to keyword search all Gmail and GDrive accounts in Wavebox. In just a couple of seconds, Wavebox will launch a new window with a tab for each search result - beats having to search through them one by one!
9. Control Tab Switcher
There are many ways to navigate across your favorite SaaS tools, web apps, websites, and tabs in Wavebox, but this keyboard shortcut is so handy—it's a no-brainer if you often need to switch between different apps/tabs to get stuff done. Hit Ctrl + Tab/Alt to bring up the Quick Switch, which shows your 5 recently used apps/tabs. Hit the shortcut again to cycle through them and release to bring an app/tab into focus.
10. Tab Sessions
If you have multiple tabs open in any Wavebox window, you can save them as a session to use again later in just one click.
Click on the Spaces indicator icon—shown as an apple in the screenshot above—select 'Send all tabs to Dashboard' and then select the Dashboard from the dropdown menu and widget (or create a new one). The session will be saved as a Collection widget in the dashboard of your choice and, from there, can be added to the webdock (sidebar) as a new group.
11. Custom Start Page (new tab)
Oh, what fun we've had creating start pages that are actually useful.
Create a dashboard and check the box to use it as your start page—it will be shown every time you create a new tab or open a new window in Wavebox. Add widgets to the dashboard to make it super-useful, perhaps with the search widget, plus links to your most frequently visited pages, e.g., chrome web store or Reddit. You can also opt for a different new tab page for each Space, so if you have a Space for Client A, you can select the Dashboard for Client A as the new tab page.
12. Sticky Notes
Yep, you can use colorful, handy little notes for your desktop! On any Dashboard, choose the Sticky Note widget from the Library. Then click on the dashed-square icon to pop it out to your computer's Desktop, and it will stay there (until it's closed). To arrange the stickies to be visible on your desktop, click on the target icon so that they 'float' on top of other applications you are using.
13. Unified inbox (Wavebox Mini)
Launch the Wavebox Mini to see all your latest messages in one place. Click on the burger menu at the top right (three lines) and then choose 'Wavebox Mini'. It will pop out to your desktop, so you can place it somewhere you can keep an eye on new stuff coming in.
14. Badges
Wavebox has the unique built-in ability to display unread badges for all your apps and websites when there's a new item. These badges display as red circles on your app icons, with either a number or a dot. You can choose to hide them or change their color in Settings for each app, and then mute them using Focus Mode.
15. Desktop Web Apps
Need an icon for your favorite web app in your OS taskbar/dock? Easy! Click on the burger menu top-right and select 'Desktop Web App'. Then click on the + icon to choose an app from your Wavebox and install it on your computer as an application. You can then add the icon to your OS's taskbar/dock to open the app in its own sleek browser window.
16. Task Lists
Create a quick, no-nonsense task list for yourself, or for the whole team. Add as many task widgets as you like to any dashboard, and/or pop-out to your desktop so it's always visible when you're plowing through work! You can reorder list items by dragging them and moving them between widgets.
17. Instant DM, Calls, and Screen Sharing
If you've set up a team, the Connect widget provides an easy way to pop out the Connect panel to your desktop, so you can DM, call, or screen-share when working in other apps on your desktop. The Connect Activity widget provides a real-time feed of your team's activity, with prompts for new members joining, new apps and links added, and new widgets.
18. Tab Audio/Sound Mute
Apps and tabs display an alert when playing audio, so you can find and mute them quickly. There are a couple of ways to mute audio. For a quick fix, just right-click on the tab app/tab you want to mute and click on 'mute sound', then click again to 'unmute'. For a longer mute period, you can click on the Focus Mode icon (red no-entry sign bottom left) to stop all sound for a set period e.g. 30 minutes, 6 hours etc.
19. Time Management
Are you curious to know how long you spend each day in Gmail? Or perhaps you need to track whether a SaaS subscription is really worth it? Just add the 'My Wavebox' widget to any workspace to see a breakdown of your 5 most frequently used apps, and the length of time spent in each. Other interesting stats include memory saved (by sleeping apps etc), total number of hours in Wavebox, and number of notifications received.
20. Browser Privacy Lock
If you share a computer, you may find it handy to lock your Wavebox browser while you're away. Using the Privacy Lock feature, you can set a 4-digit code or password to keep your Wavebox safe.
21. App & Tab Navigator
Click on the compass icon in the titlebar to launch a window displaying thumbnails of all open apps, tabs, and windows. Move your mouse over an app's titlebar to see how much memory it is using, and click on the sleep icon to suspend it. There are three views for the Navigator—(1) number of App Tabs, (2) web dock order, (3) CPU usage.
22. Brainbox Built-in AI Assistant
Brainbox is our AI extension that's available across everything you use in the browser. You can interact seamlessly with Brainbox during your workflow to get help with your work.
