How do I restore a profile from a backup saved on my computer?
As backup, Wavebox automatically saves the last 5 updated versions to your computer. You can use any of these backups, if needed, to restore Wavebox to a previous version e.g. if you have deleted something major you now need. Here's how to do it:
1) ‼️ Create a new profile:
- Always do this first. Click on the user icon at the top-right, then 'Add' under the heading 'Profiles'
- This will open the Profile Manager window. Click on 'Add' to launch a new Profile.
- In the Profile pop-up, under 'Choose a Setup Option,' give your profile a name, e.g., Test.
- Then click the 'Next' button under 'Use current subscription' to enable Pro in the new Profile.
- ‼️ Important: Do not restore from any cloud backups shown in the pop-up window.
- A new blank Profile will launch.
2) Grab a profile from your computer:
- On a Mac, open 🔎 Finder. Whilst holding the option key down, use the 'Go' menu along the top and pick 'Library.'
- Locate 'Application Support/WaveboxApp/Default/wavebox/snapshot/versioned'
- You should see 5 files, each with different version numbers (e.g. 10.130.1). These correlate to the version of the app that generated them. Locate the one you want.
- 💾 Save this file somewhere on your computer that's easy to find, such as the desktop.
3) In Wavebox, go to the new 'Test' profile you just created:
- Click on the ⚙️ Settings Cog in the bottom-left
- Toggle on Advanced Mode if it isn't already enabled
- Under the "Data & Sync" section, look for 'Import & Export to Disk'.
- Click 'Import' here and locate the file on your desktop.
- The Wavebox Profile will relaunch using the restored file.
♻️ If you want to replace your current profile with the restored 'Test' one, there are 2 options:
- Either, start using the 'Test' Profile instead, deleting the old profile via the 'Profile Manager' window (more details👇). You may want to rename the Profile (more details👇).
- Or, go to your old Profile and repeat the steps in (3) above, thereby restoring it from the exported/imported file. Then, delete the 'Test' Profile via the 'Profile Manager' window.
🏷️ To rename a Profile
- To rename the Profile, open Settings and click on the General tab at the top.
- Then go to the Wavebox Profiles section and replace 'Test' with a new name.
🗑️ To delete a Profile
- Click on the User icon top-right
- Click on the Settings Cog top-right
- Look for the Profile you want to delete, click on the kebab icon (three vertical dots), and select Delete.
- The Profile will launch, and you can close it to delete it completely.
