What are the tooltip hover menus & how do I customize them?
Having all your frequently used web apps, services and pages in one place is key to a more efficient workflow. But having the tools to modify these workflows on the fly, to reflect changes in your daily tasks, can be just as important. So that's why Wavebox includes tooltip menus that are easily accessible when hovering over any group, app or tab.
Group Tooltips
Hover over any group in the webdock, and you'll see previews of any open apps, along with fast actions, unread & notification info, and the list of apps within the group.
- Some apps within a group support fast actions, providing a one-click solution for common tasks such as composing emails or creating events.
- Unread items & Notifications for apps in the group are shown in the tooltip.
App Tooltips
Hover over an app, (or group that only has one app) and you'll see a slightly different tooltip, with a thumbnail preview of the app, Saved items, history and related tabs.
- Apps save a history for the last 5 pages that you've visited. You can save any of these into the saved items by hovering over it and clicking the save button.
- Saved items are links to pages saved from an app's history, providing fast access to a page you want to revisit.
Tab Tooltips
Tabs have their own unique tooltip, which includes a recent thumbnail preview of the tab, information about how much memory it's using, and some tools to sleep, split, pin, and mute the tab.
Use the button along the top-right of the tooltip to customize your tab:
- You can sleep a tab to suspend it, meaning it doesn't consume any resources
- Splitting your tab opens it up in split-screen mode
- To pin your tab on the tabstrip use the pin button
- If your tab is noisy, mute the tab to stop any audio playing
🏁 Transition Speed, and ON/OFF Toggle.
- Enjoy control over how quickly tooltips appear on your screen. The default speed is set at 750 milliseconds, but feel free to adjust it to match your pace.
- Choose to show or hide the space tooltips—those circle icons at the very top of the webdock (visible when in Spaces Layout).
📦 Customise Group Tooltips
- Decide which tooltips you want to see and where. Whether you prefer them in the webdock, on the toolbar, or not at all—the choice is yours.
- If you're working with groups that have lots of apps, you might want to hide certain items for a cleaner look. Use toggles to switch items on or off and drag them to reorder.
🚀 Customize App Tooltips
- Tailor your app tooltips to fit your workflow. Maybe you don't need to see tab history or unread counts—now you can toggle these features off. Organize the tooltip content by dragging and dropping the items to suit how you work.
Customize Tab Tooltips
- Use the toggle to show or hide tab tooltips.
- Even if there's not much to see in a tab tooltip, having a quick thumbnail preview of what’s inside the tab can be incredibly useful. Toggle the thumbnail image on or off as it suits your workflow.
🙌 Pro Tip: Before switching off your tooltips!
