Wavebox allows you to remain signed in to all your Gmail accounts, whether for work, home, side hustles, clients, or other businesses.

One advantage of using Wavebox is that since all your Gmail accounts are always signed in, you receive real-time notifications and unread badges for each account. This feature helps you stay updated and saves you time.

While staying signed in to multiple Gmail accounts can be complex, Wavebox simplifies the process by managing everything in the background. For instance, when you first add your Gmail app, Wavebox is designed to detect your type of inbox.

However, since Gmail offers five different inbox types, there may be occasional inaccuracies with the unread badge count.

Luckily it takes just a minute to resolve any issues and here's how to quickly check your inbox type to ensure your badges are always correct.

Configuring Your Inbox Type

When setting up your Gmail app in Wavebox, you’ll be prompted to select an inbox type. If you dismissed this prompt or need to change the inbox type later, you can do so easily through Settings:

  • Verify Your Gmail Inbox Type: First access the Gmail settings by clicking the Settings cog in Gmail, and navigating to Quick Settings to view your inbox type.
  • Align Wavebox with Gmail: Open the Gmail app settings by right-clicking on the icon and going to Settings > App Settings.
  • In Settings, find the 'Unread & Sync' section and set the Inbox Type to match your Gmail configuration.

Understanding Special Cases

These steps cover most configurations, but there are special scenarios where a different approach may be necessary.

These are the two most common:

  • Default Inbox with Only Primary Category: Set your Wavebox Inbox Type to 'Unread First' since Gmail treats this setup similarly to an 'Unread First' view.
  • Priority Inbox with Unread Count Focus: If you rely on total unread items, Wavebox should also be set to 'Unread First.'

All Done!

All your Gmails should now show the correct unread badge, so you are always up-to-date with what's new. For more information on special cases, visit this tutorial in our Knowledge Base. Or reach out to support and we'll help you get set up.
